Richard Serra continues to produce rigorous and intense engravings. His two new compositions, entitled Backstop, combine etchings and the use of paintsticks on a double panel exploring mass and equilibrium, as is often the case in his sculpture.
In addition to these new works, we are exhibiting a number of engravings from the Composite suite, conceived in 2018-19, the printing of which was delicate, requiring many months of effort. They combine aquatint and paintstick applied via screen-printing to produce a texture with an impressive density.
This exhibition of etchings by Richard Serra at Galerie Lelong & Co., prepared in collaboration with the Gemini G.E.L studio in California, is testimony to a longstanding relationship with the artist and his work, dating back more than 30 years.
Richard Serra was born in San Francisco in 1938. He lives and works in New York.
