David Nash

January 12 – March 4, 2023
38 avenue Matignon, Paris
To open 2023, Galerie Lelong & Co. is exhibiting a collection of recent works by the British artist David Nash. For 50 years, he has been guided by a creative instinct obedient to his preferred subject: trees. Often taking the form of sculptures – sometimes monumental, sometimes humbler in format – David Nash adapts to the form dictated by the trunk or branch to conceive his sculptures and installations. The other facet of his oeuvre, drawings on paper, similarly embodies this close awareness of the material. Although he does not eschew plant forms altogether, in this exhibition he favours minimal abstractions with rich colours that sing joyously.

David Nash (born in 1945 at Esher, England) lives and works in Blaenau Ffestiniog in North Wales. He has been a member of the Royal Academy since 1999. His work, widely represented in the major museums of Europe, America, Australia and Japan, has been the subject of retrospectives at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and at Kew Gardens in England, as well as at the National Museum Cardiff and at Towner Eastbourne. He currently has an exhibition of his last drawings at the Oriel Môn in Wales.
