Pierre Alechinsky Georg Baselitz Eduardo Chillida Jannis Kounellis Joan Miró
In 1946, in the gallery at 13 rue du Téhéran, an exhibition opened entitled "Le noir est une couleur", showcasing the leading artists of the time: Bonnard, Matisse, Braque, Rouault…

Galerie Lelong & Co., still operating from the same address in Paris, alludes to this exhibition by bringing together graphic works from six major artists. Some express themselves almost uniquely through black (Chillida, Kounellis); others make good use of it without neglecting other colours (Alechinsky, Baselitz); the latter pair use it in the same way they use all other colours (Miró, Hockney). All concur on the expressive power of black, this “colour” that, accompanied by its countless shades of grey, can very easily be enough on its own.
