Biography

Jan Voss was born in 1936 in Hamburg (Germany). He lives and works between Paris and Berlin. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich between 1956 and 1960, the German painter moved permanently to Paris. He was a professor at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris where he taught from 1987 to 1992. A monograph by Yves Michaud was published in 2001 and a second by Anne Tronche was published in 2015. He has been the subject of major exhibitions, notably at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dunkerque in 2002, at the Palais Synodal de Sens in 2008, at the Museum Arnhem in the Netherlands in 2010, and at the Espace d'art contemporain André Malraux in Colmar in 2021. His works are now in the collections of many museums: Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Museum of Fine Arts in Dunkirk, Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.
