James Brown

James Brown was born in 1951 in Los Angeles. He lived and worked between Oaxaca and Paris. He died in 2020.

Biography

In 1978, the Gemeentemuseum in Arnheim in the Netherlands hosted James Brown’s first institutional one-man show. Brown’s work has since been exhibited in important American and European museums. Recently, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Oaxaca and the Museo Diego Rivera Anahuacalli in Mexico paid tribute to him with two major exhibitions of his work.

James Brown collaborated with the galleries Tony Shafrazi (New York, in 1983), Bruno Bischofberger (Zurich, in 1985), Larry Gagosian (Los Angeles, in 1985), and Leo Castelli (New York, in 1986). Galerie Lelong exhibited his work regularly between 1987 and 2000.
