Galerie Lelong & Co. is pleased to announce the participation of Leonardo Drew and Barthélémy Toguo to Art Basel: Unlimited, curated by Giovanni Carmine.
The Unlimited sector of Art Basel will host Number 341, a new site-specific installation by Leonardo Drew. This work marks a new turning point for the artist as Drew extends the wall installation onto the floor plane for the first time, amplifying its dynamic composition and structure.
Composed of 45 zingana wood bas-reliefs, 'Bilongue' was initiated by Barthélémy Toguo in 2015 with inhabitants of the Bilongue suburb of Douala in Cameroon. It was whilst preparing for his participation in the 56th Venice Art Biennale in 2015, curated by Okwui Enwezor, that Toguo encountered a community characterized by their daily struggle to find a meager means of subsistence and the need to defend themselves against gangs. Toguo created a "Hall of Fame" to honor these individuals – a gallery of 45 portraits commemorating their lives and difficulties that will be shown at the Unlimited sector of Art Basel.
